Our third favorite canadian band, Born Ruffians, just dropped their new album, Red, Yellow & Blue. The curiously In Rainbows-esque cover art is below.
It really is a great album and surpasses by far their self titled ep, which was found in the Amoeba clearance for 3 bucks. shame.
Red, Yellow, and Blue is really a step up from the EP. Y’all know I’m a sucker for yelpy Canadian indie rock, but this album really stands on its own. The band, though it is only drums, guitar, and bass, sounds expansive and deep. Harmonized vocals and rounds make for more interesting sounds on many tracks, like Barnacle Goose. There really isn’t an obviously weak track, maybe Badonka Donkey, but the real standout is “I Need A Life” This song it just amazing. Emotional, raw, and full of that Born Ruffians energy you all know and love. Back and forth vocals speak lines like “my cup is half empty, been that way all my life.” and “the sun is shinin’ but we stay inside, stay in bed till we feel alright” but after all these seemingly dreary lines, the truth comes out: “oh but we go out at night.” Born Ruffians may be not such a ridiculous name, cause these kids were born to party.

I saw the movie poster for the upcoming Charlie Bartlett the other day. I couldn’t help but notice it bore a striking resemblance to Calvin Harris’ album cover for I Created Disco. Take a look and judge for yourself.

Just a quick post before bed. I stumbled upon this cover a few nights ago. I absolutely love Lightspeed and this is an awesome cover. The quality is kind of shitty since it was recorded live, but it’s still a great track.

Okie Dokie peeps, I’m gonna tell you about some music I found, so just turn it up now, just turn it up now.
First up, we have impending the Impending Coachella Arrival (ICA) ((as of now, 65 days,14 hours, 55 mins, and 49 46 42 38 32 seconds to go))
In honor of the ICA, we have fresh (not really) for you a track from these sexy dudes, Akron/Family. Great song, unfortunately the highlight of their album, so don’t expect better than this. Fortunately, this is an amazing track. Animal Collective, anyone?

Akron/Family - Ed is a Portal
Next up is a little aside, a rarer track from my main man, the alliteratively initialed Dan Deacon, off of one of his earlier EP’s, Twacky Cats. Just listen to his voice, kids. An inspiration for aspiring electronic musicians everywhere, fiddling around on their computers. (You know who you (and me) are)

Dan Deacon - Ohio (demonstration Version)
Edit : Danny boy has put everything pre-Spiderman of the Rings on his site. GET ME SOME O’ DEM… FO FREE.
Dan Deacon Discography Deserves Download Don’t Deny Dat Dude
And finally, a weirdo. If you only download one of the tracks from this post make it the following. Picked up off my camp counselor’s myspace (He makes some funky electro beatz.) Everything here, credz go to Benzi Rodman. Honestly, I don’t know if this project is him, he and his girlfriend, (if he has one) one of his friends, or even even some band he just likes. But I like it a lot, and I think you will too. It’s the mystery that makes music fun.
You Say Benana - open spaces again

It just has that feel of homemade synths in the morning. Fresh. If you hit up some comments below, some more tracks by this kid may show up.

Okay folks. It is the day before Valentine’s Day. The holiday which makes half of the population extremely happy and the other half extremely sad. So right now, I think it is time for my new segment: Hipster Love Songs. (The picture is supposed to be a hipster meets love type thing. You know, with the glasses and all. You’ll get it, don’t worry.) Those silly anthems that are emotional and jammin’ at the same time. So here are my six choices in honor of Valentine’s Day.
The Teenagers - Homecoming
It wouldn’t be a Valentine’s Day without this anthem of fucking. Is it incestral? Who cares. The song is damn good.
Billie the Vision and the Dancers - My Love
Oh Billie. Maybe its something about Swedes and love songs. I have three on this list of six. Continuing with the Swedes…
Hello Saferide - Highschool Stalker
A highschool crush gone bad. Any highschooler can relate to this song. Although it’s kinda creepier if you’re a guy. But not by much.
Jens Lekman - Into Eternity
His sweet voice just drifts you into a lull of longing for a special someone. Or if you have a special somone, I can only imagine it would make you all the grateful.
Bloc Party - This Modern Love
(Bonus track from gzabriel, Owen Pallet Aka Final Fantasy’s cover of this track leaves me dumbfounded every time. A must listen.)
Poingnant and sweet, Kele’s vocals are just stunning on this track. Its a modern twist on a love story/song. The guitar lick is just is just adorable, I don’t even know how else to describe it. And finally…
Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart
This will probably be the most blogged song come tomorrow, but who fucks a give. This is a historic moment for music, as it was one of the last songs recorded before Ian Curtis’ untimely death. If you haven’t seen Control, you really should, as it just captures the emotion of the moment perfectly.

As Lupe’s #1 fan ever I feel it is my civic duty to tell everybody to go and check out mtv.com, and see the little biography on the best mtv artist of the week EVER. It even includes a really cool 50’s based video of “Superstar.” The link is provided below.
P.S. Much congratulations to you Lupe, a very well deserved first grammy!

Today I have a few things to share.
First off we got a nice track off the In Rainbows Remix album, it gives Thom Yorke some nice glitched vocals here and there but where it really shines is the verse from none other than Del Tha Funkee Homosapien. I think you guys will like it, it’s got kind of an Us Placers vibe to it.
Grab it here: Video Tapez (ft. Del Tha Funkee Homosapien) - Radiohead
Next up is a remix by a group that really shouldn’t need any description at all. DFA remixed Paper Planes. Go crazy.
Paper Planes (DFA Remix) - M.I.A
And finally is a track produced due to Arcade Fire’s simultaneous release of a video and remix material It’s a whole new take on a favorite off Neon Bible.
Viola: Black Mirror (Trading Aces Remix) - Arcade Fire
Enjoy Valentines Day!

The new free Re-Up Gang mixtape was just released on their website. I for one, am very excited. I listened to it for a little bit and although I’m not a huge fan of Sand or Liva, I love it just for Malice and Pusha T (Clipse). Even though they are a little bit weak on the lyrical side, the beats make up for it. My favorite tracks seem to be the ones where they rap over a Jay-Z beat, and also on a different track , a Kanye beat.

Oh yeah, here’s a link to the FREE mixtape.
