Alright folks, here it is – the comprehensive recap of my listening ventures as of late. The mix includes mostly newer cuts, supplemented with a few quasi-throwbacks and unreleased tracks(sshhh!) that will be sure to sustain and/or re-affirm any waning summer optimism. For many of us, August is a denouement to the glory and carefree ecstasy of July – an all to abrupt and inevitable decline towards the 9 month drudgery known as scholastic life. It’s as if the entire word is coming down from an incredible but unrealistic high: the month of August serving to remind us of the banality and unproductive nature of daily life. Ariel Pink – Round And Round (this one really grew on me, easily one of the most unique vibes in recent memory)

Fool’s Gold – Surprise Hotel (highlife + hebrew = summer lovin’)

Arcade Fire – The Suburbs (recommended addition: if you feel so inclined, add modern man to this list. My favorite cut of the record, just somehow slipped my mind when penning this mix.)

Talking Heads – This Must Be The Place (maybe one of my favorites of all time )

Stornoway – Zorbing (most likely to: be the next belle and sebastian)

Ra Ra Riot – Boy (catchy and consistent, coupled with a dirty bass line)

Pavement – Shady Lane (it’s everybody’s god)

Blake Mills – Hey Lover (slight tangent: Mind Blowing Blake Mills Solo Video +1000 for taste and musicality)

Surfer Blood – Take It Easy (melancholy summer jam)

Morning Benders – Patient Patient (recently checked out their debut, needless to say, it’s pop gold. thanks for a great show at summerstage…)

Love Language – Heart To Tell (stellar production)

Yeasayer – Love Me Girl (favorite track on my favorite of the year thus far. it’s gonna take the second coming of bitte orca to de-throne odd blood)

Oberhofer – o0Oo0Oo (to be honest, i haven’t listened enough for any witticisms or commentary. just gonna trust willshoob on this one…)

Department Of Eagles – Flip (my favorite song off the archive, though i wish the first theme was recycled a bit more.)

Department Of Eagles – Floating On The Lehigh (despite my love of in ear park, i only just realized the greatness of this track)

News – New York City (willshoob picked this up at other music and i’m really digging it. very apropos considering my current location)

Evan Voytas – I Took A Trip On A Plane (sort of embodies the aforementioned sullen descent of august: maybe wait a few weeks to spin this one)

Beat Connection – In The Water (thanks for this one p4k. water themed, heavy.)

Henry (HKwap) and I are leaving for Italy tomorrow, so expect little to no posts in the upcoming ten days. To make up for our lack of posting in the upcoming days, I’ve decided to make the second Tape mix. This one is 24 songs- some relatively new, some old, and some obscure. It’s about one and a half hours long, and I’m genuinely digging every track I put on here, so make sure to listen to the mix in its entirety. Trying something new, so bare with me. This “Tape Mix” business is just our way of sharing what we’ve been listening to lately, whether we’ve posted it or not. I’m also going to try to get some guest artists and such to make a mix, so look out for that. The first one has no theme, just some shit I’m listening to that I think you’ll enjoy.
