Okay. Here goes a new segment. I’m gonna take a shot at predicting future top 40 hits. For this week, my prediction is…
Lil Mama ft Chris Brown and T-Pain - Shawty Get Loose
Chris Brown and T-Pain seem to be instant hitmakers right now. Anything by or featuring these guys makes it into the top ten. Lil Mama should parlay the success of “Lip Gloss” into this single. I’ve also heard this song on recent adverts for the Dancing With the Stars premiere.
% Chance of Top 40 Hit: 99.9% - this is as close as you can get to a guaranteed hit.

The only tagline to rival Juno’s “Silencio, old man!” is the album title of the Los Campesinos debut, Hold On Now Youngster. The way I’ll be doing this review is taking you through the tracklist as I listen to it. Let’s begin. The review and two tracks after the jump. (Read more…)

Ok so you know the drill by now, or maybe you don’t. Anyways we post songs that have been stuck in our head all day.
Macklin: Billy Preston-Nothing From Nothing
I have had this song stuck in my head since this Saturday when I went to see “Be Kind Rewind.” It’s basically the best feel good song ever, which is why it’s my “Tuesdays School Days” pick.
Tristan: Rick Ross - Speedin’ (Remix feat. R. Kelly and Chris Brown)
Cheesy rap songs are the new hip thing. What could be cheesier than “The Boss.” He hustles every day, dealing with people of questionable existence, who may or may not owe him 100 favors. In his newest track, he features R. Kelly. R. Kelly’s verse in this song is better than his line, “I be drilling these chicks like major pain, while I make it rain, damn boy do it again.. OH!” in the Fat Joe “Make It Rain” remix. Best part of this song: “Sittin’ in my living room watching the Grammys, wishing it was me that was on the Grammys.”
Willie: Anamanaguchi- Helix Nebula
This song is good. I like it.

When you hear the word grum, many thoughts come to your mind. About 90% of them are unappealing. However, as unappealing as his name may be to your ears, his music more than makes up for it. Its maximal, yes. But it has those elements of funk that make Daft Punk so great. It’s groovy, yet very heavy. I’m trying to coin a term for the genre that he falls into. The one with Bloody Beetroots, Toxic Avenger, all the Ed Banger peeps, Hot Pink Delorean and so on. I’m thinking of “Blog House.” Simply, it is house that gets posted a lot in is often on the Hype Machine.

The Republic Tigers are an up and coming indiepop band from Kansas City, Missouri. They recently signed to Chop Shop Records. Chop Shop is owned and run by Alexandra Patsavas, music supervisor to Grey’s Anatomy,Gossip Girl, and formerly, The O.C. She’s gotten a lot of great indie bands on the map, and now will attempt to do the same thing with her label. Her first signing, the Republic Tigers are sorta mellow, very chill, but still have the “umph” required to make it big on the indie circuit. Best of luck to them and to the label, and look out for them in the future.
