Sunday night and I have nothing to do, so I’m not waiting until Monday for this bad boy! Anyways I have an eclectic array of old and new music. Three supremely guilty tunes. Enjoy!
Bro: Dude!!! Have you heard that new M.I.A. song from Pineapple Express??? It’s so good! Hipster: You mean her single from the album Kala, that’s over a year old? Bro: No!!! Dude! It’s totally new and called Paper something, and it plays in Pineapple Express whenever they smoke! Ha! It’s so totally funny Hipster (sick of engaging someone obviously not as cool as him): No… Never heard it, sorry.

Sorry for the delay we are experiencing technical difficulties but here we are to post Guilty Music Monday number 26. Today we are just going to bring you three songs, but they all come from different time periods. You will see how guilty everyone can be no matter if they’re from 1982 or straight out of 2008.
First we have…
This song is incredibly catchy and no matter how embarrassed you are or how cheesy you think it sounds some how you keep on hitting play. It’s the super catchy hook that keeps you playing it over and over again and again. It sounds extremely inspired by Sebastien Tellier. The only difference is Sebastien is ten times more guilty for the fact that he is only releasing his CD in American Apparel clothing stores.
Now this is a great 80’s song and it wouldn’t be so guilty had it not been the owner of one of the catchiest and one of the most epic hooks ever. “SHOUT! SHOUT! let it all out!” You can’t help but sing along and thats right about where it gets guilty. Singing at the top of your lungs to a cheesy eighties song is a great time but it doesnt stop it from being a guilty pleasure.
And last but not least, we have Marvin Gaye, “Let’s Get It On.” This song will impregnate people just by giving it a play. There may have been a slight boom in population when this song was released. Research is still being conducted.

I completely forgot about Guilty Music Monday last week, so my deepest apologies. I hope you all can forgive me.
First we have another Journey song. This increases their GMM count to two, which is entirely too many for any band to be proud of. You may recognize this song from Girl Talk’s Feed The Animals CD. This song is featured on the final track, “Play Your Part (Pt. 2). I realized this song was guilty when I heard it at Lollapalooza and started singing it for the rest of the evening, receiving many weird looks… Most of which seemed to say “Are you actually singing Journey?” Therefore, this song is guilty.
I once heard a saying that said “Only two types of people wear sunglasses inside… Assholes and blind people.” I believe the same saying applies to the night.

No theme to this GMM, besides awesomeness.
Some of you may have noticed our interview with Tokyo Police Club posted here yesterday. We asked them a question about their favorite guilty pleasure, and after much (read: no) disagreement they settled on Fergalicious. They proceeded to sing to perfection this song, while barely (read: totally not) feeling ashamed. We on the other hand would be very embarrassed to belt out the lyrics. I guess that is why we review music and don’t play it.
We are not emo or depressed, but we really do love My Chemical Romance videos. Most of them are very creative, but one stands out. “Ghost Of You” takes place on a dance floor that turns into a war zone. Don’t even try to think about it, just watch.
Come on, does this one really need an explanation?
Flobots are really guilty. They talk about bikes in this song. We hipsters love bikes, some of us admit our love some don’t. This one is for all the closet hipster bikers who are afraid to show their real bike love.
(Gzabriel clarification edit: The song is not about bikes. It’s a metaphor. It’s about power and losing control. That is all.)

First of all, let me say that I am a huge Rhymefest fan. Blue Collar is a fantastic album and he’s a fantastic rapper. He hasn’t put out an album in a long time, or any new music for that matter. So as I was blog scanning today, I came across a post on Fake Shore Drive, that was from a guy that “stole” Rhymefest’s Ipod. Now some of the songs on this Ipod are from Rhymefest’s upcoming album, El Che. This album has been in the works forever, and kept on getting pushed back. So I decided to download the two songs supplied by this mystery robber. I am very against pirating music, and while I do consider this some type of pirating I will still buy the album. I feel very divided when listening to these two songs. One half of me saying that he hasn’t done anything to put out this new album, go ahead and listen. Then there is my other side saying that he is one of my favorite rappers, just wait until the album comes out even though that might be a long time. I in no way find Rhymefest a guilty pleasure, I am proud to enjoy his music but this situation is guilty.

Eminem. What a funny word, Eminem. What could it mean? Could it be a play on words of his name Marshall Mathers. You know, two m’s but to be cool spell it oddly. Or maybe he really likes the chocolates with the colorful hard shell. But in all honesty, Eminem is a great rapper. He paints a vivid picture in every one of his song, but him being white makes people look down upon him as a rapper. I recently read a book entitled Why White Kids Love Hip-Hop and one of the main reasons for hip-hop becoming more diverse, is solely because of him. So there are two sides to this. There is the side that most black rappers are taking, saying that hip-hop is dominated by blacks its for blacks; and then there are other mostly non-black rappers who believe hip-hop isn’t just black, thanks mostly to Eminem (and the Beastie Boys before him). Anyways, these anti-diversity rappers are fearing that hip-hop will be taken away from them just like Rock N Roll was before that. Anyways, there is my rant… Now enjoy some Eminem.

So We Have come to number 21. Yes it’s true this is the twenty first guilty music monday, and it’s going to be crazy. First I think we need to discuss something or rather someone, Katy Perry. She has recently come out with two songs topping the GMM charts. Katy Perry-Ur So Gay
And of course who could forget the classic Katy Perry-I Kissed A girl
Now for something completely different. A song out of another era and another genre. This is one of my favorite songs, yet their is definitely a sense of guilt if someone catches you belting out this tune.

I am currently in Italy, and I am so sorry for the delay. Anyways, I have decided to go with a sporting event theme. I only have two songs and I have to go soon, so you’ll have to download without explanation. Thanks to the elder son of Mr. Schube for supplying the Itunes.

Sorry for the delay, it’s summer. This weeks theme was an idea given to me by Tristan Rodman (1/2 of up and coming L.A. DJ group, Swine Forkbeard). This weeks theme is autotune, aka Chris Brown and T-Pain.
First we have “The Boss” by Rick Ross and T-Pain. I’m pretty sure this has already been a guilty music monday selection, but thats ok. This song is pretty guilty, even if the only reason is that Rick Ross uses the word ‘thus’.
Second we have “Good Life” by Kanye West, once again featuring T-Pain. I love Kanye’s songs. I hate Kanye, I love his music. He has exciting beats, and sometimes witty lyrics. That combination, plus T-Pain makes this a guilty victory.
Last but not least, we have a remix of Chris Brown’s “Kiss Kiss.” This song features T-Pain as well! I chose the Eli Escobar remix for a few reasons. It’s more guilty than the regular version because the first about 30 seconds is a voice saying “Nappy boy, and pretty boy.” It made me laugh. This remix also features Wale, and that basically justifies this song being on my Itunes.
The tape is a project conceived by Gabriel Gutierrez (gzabriel), Macklin Casnoff (caz4mack), Tristan Rodman(pistachionut), Asher Kaplan (ashkap), Willie Schube (lupethefiasco) and Henry Kwapis (hKWAP). All songs featured on this blog are for promotional use only. If you dig a track, go out and buy it!
