Mercury’s In Retrograde

Written by lupethefiasco on Thursday, 10 of July , 2008 at 4:00 pm

One of my favorite bands recently put out a new song along with a video entitled “Mercury.” Bloc Party is starting to turn very electronic, and I for one like it. This and flux together hint at a very electronic new album, very different from their first two. Video and MP3 below.

RAC Maury Remixes Again!

Written by gzabriel on Tuesday, 1 of July , 2008 at 11:23 am

Andrew Maury just sent this remix our way. It’s a charming remix of Brooklyn band Bear Hands, with trademark RAC percussion, well placed synths, some warm and full guitar sounds and seriously awesome tambourining. The vocals are a pop perfect indie chanting chorus of “Long and Lean/ God Save The Queen” and the song seems to go from good to goddamn catchy. I love it and RAC can do no wrong. Props to Maury and everyone go check it out.

Press Play #3: The One Where You Dance More

Written by gzabriel on Saturday, 14 of June , 2008 at 10:19 pm

The past installments of Press Play have taken on a more relaxed vibe. Fuck that. These songs will make you dance semi violently in the nude.

Fuck yeah, go to muxtape.

Can’t Stop Movin

Written by gzabriel on Monday, 9 of June , 2008 at 9:32 pm

I’d like to let everyone in on a secret: I’ve found my summer jam. Oh yes, as D.A.N.C.E and Any Way You Choose To Give It were last year, Can’t Stop Movin is to this. Found over at Good Weather For Airstrikes this song will sweep you up and take you away on a rollerskate ride of sunshine and sample love. Reminding me of Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve’s Percy Power in terms of sample variety but subsituting the mellow psychedelia for a song that will have you pulling dance moves that have been out of style for decades, in the best possible way. I highly reccomend everyone to start this trend now and hopefully we’ll hear it poolside, beachside, and sunny side for summer. Oh and pick up Sonny J’s album next week too

Indie Hipster Douchebag

Written by gzabriel on Tuesday, 3 of June , 2008 at 9:51 pm

No that title is not an attack on anyone we know in particular, nor does it imply a searing critique of particular party pic a la HRO. But rather, it is the name of a track off the soon to be released “Rocktronica” sent to us by Dj Doc Rok who has been mentioned here before. In this case it is a collaboration with an artist by the moniker Oh Snap!! who makes scene concious, self aware, dance quasirap for hipsters of all colors of the American Apparel rainbow to enjoy. The track is Indie Hipster Douchebag and like previous posts on songs talking about Indie kids/Hipsters/Douchebags it details the behavior of such a character in an easy to digest song format with a computer voice, a little synth, and some stabs for a beat to round off the song. Grab it now.

These Things No One Tells Me About

Written by gzabriel on Wednesday, 21 of May , 2008 at 8:45 pm

There are just some things that slip through the cracks of the blogs of the internets and I am happy to have found a few to be proud of. Why does no one tell me when We Are Terrorists puts out new tunes? I love those guys. The track is as banging as usual for them, guitar like stabs with heaps of distortion, french vocals I can’t understand, and ear puncturing drums and synths. Perfect.

The bigger shocker here is that no one told me about possibly the greatest thing I have found all month. A chiptune/electro remix of We’re From Barcelona by I’m From Barcelona. The genius that is Adventurekid has taken the most hand clap happy, sing along, feel good song and turned it into an equally as powerful if not more adorable 8 bit bopping rework. And to top it off he’s done it live (check out the myspace for amazing videos of such a show. Think I’m From Barcelona, on stage in a crazy Swedish chiptune dance party)

Just thought I’d keep you guys up to date on these crucial issues.

How About A Little Love For SO ME

Written by pistachionut on Wednesday, 14 of May , 2008 at 3:37 pm

So Me is hardly a household name. The artists he works with, however, are some of the most blogged about and talked about in the world. His aesthetic is undeniable, his work more than identifiable. Large, cartoony letters with just enough bounce to keep things fun. He is probably best known for his work with Ed Banger records. He’s pretty much the main reason for Justice’s commercial success, too, as he directed the D.A.N.C.E. video. Let’s take a look at some of his work.

This is a promo CD released by Ed Rec he did the cover work on. Beautiful stuff.

This is the latest accompaniment to the Ed Rec Vol III release. The “Protect and Entertain” badge and shirt design are his also.

Those are the front and back of the Ed Banger North American Tour shirts he did. I’m unfortunate enough as not to own a print, the tour never did come to LA, but its some pretty incredible art.

Now we move on to the videos. Of course everybody knows him for his work with Justice - the DVNO and D.A.N.C.E. videos being huge respective successes. Now, he did also direct a video for Kanye West. Like, when Kanye realized he was actually French and really into electronica. Here is the “Good Life” video directed by So Me…

PUZIQUe

Written by gzabriel on Tuesday, 13 of May , 2008 at 7:11 pm

Going back to my roots of posting electronic acts I find on other blogs for a minute here. PUZIQUe is the not so new duo off of Boys Noize self titled label involving the man himself as well as a favorite of mine D.I.M. They engineer dancefloor friendly distortion grooves that leans to the house side of the spectrum at times more than I would like as well as not being as “edgy” as the two aforementioned artists solo. However, it makes for a great listen.

RAC Does The Greats

Written by gzabriel on Saturday, 26 of April , 2008 at 8:55 am

Andrew Maury of RAC just sent this our waynintendo_vs_sega_ep_500.jpg

Not only does this look like the coolest thing ever but it sounds like the coolest thing. Ever. RAC takes on the Nintendo side of the spectrum and delivers a killing redo of Zelda’s A Link To The Past rife with heavy guitar stabs and intermittent screams that make it my favorite track of the bunch as well as an awesome take on the Mario Bros theme. Maury then gets his hands on Sonic’s tunes and brings out a more chill but still delicious sounding 2 songs that stay closer to the source material but still pack a heavy punch. I can’t think of any reason why you wouldn’t want to grab this as it is one of the coolest things ever thought of. Props to RAC and Maury and go check this shit out right now.

Just cause the expiration date is ‘82 don’t mean it isn’t good in ‘08

Written by ashkap on Tuesday, 26 of February , 2008 at 10:33 pm

Just came across this fresh track by Orange Juice, the 80’s band credited by Belle and Sebastian and countless others as inspirational. Their hit track Rip It Up from the similarly titled album sounds fresh, almost as if it just popped out of Chromeo, or more accurately, Cut Copy.
