The Motion Makes Me Last

I knew very little about Eluvium (aka Matthew Cooper) before listening to “The Motion Makes Me Last”, and to be completely honest, “The Motion Makes Me Last” is now all I know about him. Listening to a track without any prior knowledge about the artist can always be fun, especially if the track is as beautiful as Cooper’s latest. A number of instruments join together, sort of swirling around Cooper’s voice. The track is calming, ambient, and beautiful. The track gains momentum when a really beautiful piano part enters the track, accompanying the foundation of instruments. Cooper uses his voice as an accompanying instrument, which is what makes this track so great. “The Motion Makes Me Last” is the first single off of the new Eluvium album, which will hit stores February 23rd, courtesy of Temporary Residence. Similes keeps the Philip Glass esque approach that Eluvium was known for in the past, but Cooper added a whole new dimension to this record, shadowing artists such as Ian Curtis, The Magnetic Fields, and Brian Eno. Who doesn’t want to hear a record that sounds like Joy Division, The Magnetic Fields, and Brian Eno? With all of that being said, Eluvium sounds completely original and more beautiful than the majority of music being made today. Cooper explores percussion, a verse-chorus structure, and singing for the first time in his career. In a way this record will be his most experimental, but also his most accessible. Check out the tracklisting below, and make sure to download “The Motion Makes Me Last.”
