Woodsman

Denver, Colorado… The new hotbed for indie music? Not quite, but we’re getting there. Woodsman are from Denver and they make some really cool music. They’ve been circulating around the blogs a bit, but the recognition they deserve will arrive more in the upcoming months. They’re putting out a full length with the always fantastic Mexican Summer, who once again proved their taste to be superior, by signing these dudes. The email the band sent me was short and sweet, and included a couple of wonderful tracks. “Bow and Arrow” is a quick, two minute track that spends the first minute droning (new verb) around, before kicking it into gear. The track really excels with just under thirty seconds left, when some really rad tribal percussion comes in. The Animal Collective comparisons will undoubtedly be stated, but I’ll try to stay away. “Bow and Arrow” kicks off the record, doing a great job of introducing their sound. “Sunglass” is the other track they sent me, and it’s the one that I reallllly dig. “Sunglass” features some funky drums and a guitar line that swirls and swirls, slowly building up the energy to explode, before it quietly dies down. The track seems to go in circles, but that’s exactly what I like about it. It’s purpose seems to be that it doesn’t have much of a purpose, and that’s why it’s so interesting to me. The track really progresses slowly, establishing its plan of action before executing. I’m a big fan of this band, and I expect big things in the future (and in the present). They’ll be hitting up California in January, something which I’ll be eagerly awaiting. Check out the tracklist for Collages below, and head over here for some more info.
