D/A/D - Super Motives

D/A/D is wünderkin Zach Robinson. Splitting his time between L.A. and Northwestern University, Zach unveiled his debut EP, Super Motives, this past week. Clocking in at 6 songs and 28 minutes, there’s quite a bit of fun to be had here. Imagine a crossroads between Miami Horror a porn soundtrack from 2050. In the best way. The opener, “10 Day Vacation” starts as a down and dirty rock track, but builds into something much more. By the 2:20 mark, we have huge major chords falling on top of another. It’s like the Wii Sports music on steroids. But he’s just getting his feet wet. The third track, “The Look of Being Old” is Zach’s thesis: the bass is grimy and the snares are gated and reverberate to heaven. By the time the guitar solo hits, slamming pentatonic scales at breakneck pace, D/A/D has established a sound of its own. The EP is available for free download at Bandcamp. Congratulations Zach, we expect big things in the future.

[...] D/A/D would make Jan Hammer jealous. Comprised of a single Northwestern University student, D/A/D’s “Super Motives” is pulled straight out of Miami Vice. Cheesy? A little. Dated? Certainly. And yet that hasn’t kept this EP from playing on repeat for the better part of the afternoon. Don’t miss out on D/A/D’s jock jam transformation of Yelle’s “Ce Jeu” at the end of the EP.
