Rain Machine

Anything Kyp Malone (TV On The Radio) does is cool by us, especially when it’s great. Some may have heard that Kyp will be releasing his solo debut under the moniker Rain Machine, and I couldn’t be more excited. The album’s set for a September 22nd release, on the wonderful Anti- records. “Smiling Black Faces” is one of the first singles, and man is it fucking great. It has this really interesting protest song vibe to it, surrounding itself in its own simplicity. It’s just Kyp’s awesome voice, layered on top of his falsetto voice (even cooler than his regular voice), loads and loads of guitar, and a sleigh bell. The song keeps on building and building, never reaching a set landmark, but building around the idea of a climax. The song slowly fades out, ending just how it started. A beautifully written and performed song. The cover art you see above was drawn by Kyp, and it’s pretty rad. Check out the tracklist and “Smiling Black Faces” below.
