FYF Fest Recap

So the entire Tape crew made our way downtown to check out this years very ambitious FYF Fest (formerly the Fuck Yeah Fest). After last years incredibly fun festival at the Echoplex, the jump from under 1,000 people to over 5,000 proved to be a difficult task for the FYF crew. The gates opened an hour late, and the food and water was far too scarce for everyone in attendance. There were also things out of their control, like Dan Deacon canceling. Mr. Deacon canceled day of, putting us all in a terrible mood, which resulted in us leaving the festival early. The 100 degree weather didn’t help either. All in all though, the festival was well put together and curated. Despite the negatives, what Sean Carlson and co. accomplished was truly remarkable, and a wonderful testament to how great the independent scene can be in LA. The festival they put on and the lineup they put together was fantastic, something that us at The Tape will strive for when planning future shows.
I didn’t snap too many pictures, but I have some shots of Woods, Crystal Antlers, and Wavves. Wavves played with Zach Hill, which was really cool to witness. At first I was tremendously underwhelmed by Wavves set, but upon further thinking, I enjoyed it far more than I led myself to believe. Woods put on the best show of the festival, really making me want to see them in a small venue. I’m sure Lightning Bolt was amazing as well, but I regrettably didn’t last that long.
