The Jaguar Club

Another band from Brooklyn. However, it’s another good band from Brooklyn. The Jaguar Club’s music is best described as controlled chaos. It doesn’t necessarily sound like a mess, but their are always a lot of (noisy) things going on at one given time. This isn’t a bad thing either. In fact, it’s a very good thing. Take the first single, “Sleepwalking” for example. Sift through the collective noise, and you’ll find many parts that together make this beautiful mess. The punk bassline, the almost U2-like guitar line, and the distinct vocals all getting louder and louder in perfect unison. Will Popadic’s voice reminds me a lot of Interpol’s singer when the band’s buildup finally reaches the chorus.
In a weird way, this track is almost haunting. The various breakdowns only enhance the already stellar vocals, giving them an extra boost when it’s time for the chorus to kick in. There’s something delightful about this song, but there is also something mysterious about it. Check it out for yourself, it’s highly recommended.
They have a couple of shows coming up in New York, and an album coming out September 1st. I’ve had the pleasure of listening to it all the way through, and let me just say that this band is going to get very big. Make sure to keep a look out for these kids from Brooklyn.
