Trevor Giuliani

Trevor Giuliani has his debut album coming out July 21st, on Dovecote Records. Giuliani grew up in suburban Connecticut, and at 18 left to study musical composition at NYU, which Trevor says, “didn’t last long.” So he ventured on his first journey, wandering around New York City’s Lower East Side, 18 years old, couch surfing, living places he never thought he’d live and making friends in the unlikeliest of places. One of those friends was a touring musician for Sufjan Stevens, who is now lending background vocals for Trevor’s album. Giuliani recently moved to Portland, for the reason that “New York City from 18 to 22 can provide good incubation space, but now I want a garden and actually know my recycling is being recycled.”
It’s really hard to describe Trevor’s music, because there are so many different aspects to it. You can call him a singer songwriter, but I generally reserve that label for “acoustic guitar”. It is a bit of a generalization, but it’s relatively accurate. I would categorize his music as layered, complex, indie pop. The first single, “Wasting Your Town” follows a similar pattern to most indie pop songs, with a simple verse and a catchy chorus, but his instrumentation is far more complex than that of a generic indie pop song. His voice also seems to blend in, and only take the spotlight when the harmonies kick in. “Wasting Your Town” is a great song, check it out below, and make sure to buy the album.

I saw Trevor last nite opening for Jill Sobule in Portland. I think there is a good reason he washed out at NYU. He TOTALLY sucked, showed absolutely no respect for the audience or the craft of songwriting and performance. His “performance” gave the very real impression that this was his very first gig ever & his “experience” was that he’d just spent a few sessions getting stoned in his bedroom playing guitar. He actually told the audience that he knew his guitar was way out of tune but he wasn’t going to make the effort to tune it for them & then subjected us to a grating display of sloppy, untuned play while mumbling some inane “lyrics”. I’m surprised he had any discipline at all to actually record an entire CD. Really, he was that bad. Trevor, please read a book, a magazine or even an article online about the craft of songwriting or performance before insulting another audience with your narcissism.

Hey Carl,
You’re an asshole. But even worse than that is how stupid you sound, and how ignorant you just made yourself look. You’re probably one of those guys who is so jealous of people who are actually creative and artistic that you get your rocks off attempting to verbally bash them. “please read a book, a magazine or even an article about the craft of songwriting or performance” hahahahaha. well we know you’ve read a bunch and guess where that’s got you: yep you guessed it, being a douchebag and ripping on someone else’s art online. WOW, impressive. Maybe you should go work for pitchfork, but on second thought, there’s no way they’d take you because you’re a terrible writer. Seriously dude, go away you’re pathetic.
Trevor you’re the man, this track sounded awesome and I can’t wait to see you live!
