Monolith, one of the most majestic summer festivals out there, has just released details on this years upcoming festival. It’s set to go down September 12th and 13th at Red Rocks Amphitheater. But unlike past years, the festival will be revealing bands through Facebook and Twitter. It’s a pretty clever way to promote themselves on the internet.
“We’ve always taken a personal and creative approach to building MONOLITH,” explains festival Co-Owner Matt Fecher. “It’s just more fun that way.” But don’t underestimate the appeal to such an approach, especially among today’s indie hipsters. “We hope it creates a real sense of ownership within our community,” Co-Owner Josh Baker adds. That sense of ownership is authentic: much of the 2009 artist lineup was taken directly from online suggestions by the festival’s loyal followers via the festival’s Facebook group.
The first three bands announced so far have been Starfucker, Girl Talk, and Thao With The Get Down Stay Down. Not a bad start, if you ask me. Stay tuned for more.
