Serengeti & Polyphonic Sign to Anticon

The Chicago experimental hip-hop duo have just signed to Anticon right before the release of their newest album, Terradactyl. Serengeti does the lyrical side while Polyphonic does the production. For those who don’t know much about the duo, here’s a little bit of background on each.
Serengeti has since released ten albums in seven years, a couple of which were released on accident. He considers his third album, Gasoline Rainbows to be his debut.
With 2006’s Dennehy-a character-hopping concept album loaded with Chicago signposts and sports references-Geti established himself as some sort of missing link between Kool Keith and Common Sense, minus their respective batshit irreverence and self-seriousness. Since, he’s been following a stream of consciousness through the darker corners of society and his psyche over an increasingly adventurous musical trajectory. Last year, Serengeti debuted two new projects: Yoome, an intimate electronic collaboration with a New Zealand chanteuse, and Friday Night, an exercise in deconstructed party rap with emcee Hi-Fidel.
After producing for various artists, Polyphonic decided to make his own disc, in 2006. After a while of freelance work and the founding of the Juba Dance blues-rap experiment, he sought out Serengeti and together they recorded their first album in 2007, Don’t Give Up. Anticon label head Doseone signed them to Anticon, and they’re getting ready to release their second album, on June 23rd.
Based on every other Anticon artist’s work, you can expect for this to be good. Anticon is my favorite label in the world, having some of my favorite artists like Why?, Odd Nosdam, and Son Lux. Check out the tracklist for Terradactyl, below. Also enjoy a Dark Was The Night track, featuring Serengeti.
