MAJOR LAZER

Diplo and Switch’s new project Major Lazer is great on paper, and even better in practice. The M.I.A. and Santigold producers are now offering their own original material with guest drops by… Santigold. Figures. The first track to hit the blogs was “Zumbi” featuring Andy Milonakis. While fun, the track was a joke, and won’t show up on their debut album Guns Don’t Kill People, Lazers Do, out in June. The second track, “Hold the Line” mixes a surf rock guitar line with Mr. Lexx’s reggae-style vocals. Santigold is solid, as always. This is only the first of many things coming from the partnership between Mad Decent (Diplo’s label) and Downtown Records. Expect some big things from Major Lazer, Buraka Som Sistema and DJ Sega in the near future.
