Dirt Dress

I could lie to you and tell you that I found this gem buried deep in the discount bin at a used record store’s going out of business sale on a worn out cassette with a handwritten track list, but I won’t. Dirt Dress may sound like the treasure that made your 2 hours second hand record store spelunking worth it but they’re actually as fresh as organic produce (I’m sorry I just used “organic produce” in a post). In the same vein as bands like Wavves and Harlem, whom we have posted about, Dirt Dress perfectly utilize the fuzzy nostalgia of 60s garage rock to create songs that feel as engrained into your brain as they are into the worn out tape that you played them on. While the songs may not be the most hook driven or catchiest, Dirt Dress make up for it by superbly recreating the casual and imperfect brilliance of garage rock, and for that I applaud them. Go pick up some of their releases, they are appropriately available in cassette format.
