Dublin Duck Dispensary

Bobby Aherne (AKA Dublin Duck Dispensary) sent us an e-mail saying “I supported Wavves last night, if that got your attention, you’re easy.” Lucky enough, it did catch my attention, and I am very glad. DDD makes fantastic home-made music that will keep you on your toes. Every song on his latest release (Yykes Basket) has a completely different feel to it. From a fuzzed out Irish jig (“The What”) to synth happy pop jam (“Be Happy”) Mr. Aherne has found a nice corner in my lo-fi noise heart. My favorite song on the new release has to be “Toy Factory” which starts off a bit like Muse’s “Knights of Cydonia” before settling down into the verse. The song eventually goes back into this shuffle feel before it comes to a sudden halt and finishes.
Here’s a little bit about the man behind the music:
Bobby Aherene started gaining success when his 2008 release Luanqibazao became the most popular record on Dutch label Rack and Ruin Records within a day of its release, and was declared “the best Irish album released in 2008 by many music publications.” You can get that album for free(!!!) on his Myspace. His follow-up EP Yykes Basket followed the same pattern and sold out in one day, the same day he opened for lo-fi’s noisiest rising star Nathan Williams (Wavves).
You can also buy Yykes Basket through his Myspace. Also, make sure to keep your eyes open because he’s going to release a split 7″, an acoustic EP (recorded on the beach), and a full length all before summer.
