Keeping Up On My Electro Game

I’ve been neglecting to post a few of the more dance driven things we’ve been sent recently, so I’d like to rectify some of that with this post. First up is a track by Alexander Technique featuring Van Scott called Nightlovers. The track utilizes a slightly crunchy bassline, an almost siren like lead sound, and cheesy electro vocals. It’s fairly successful on its own but it shines even brighter at the hands of its remixers: Chewy Chocolate Cookies, Acid Jacks and Nick Catchdubs. Chewy Chocolate Cookies’ remix gets an even more dance floor ready twist courtesy of MSTRKRFT’s JFK, who turns the siren call into a full on air raid. Acid Jacks add my favorite flavor to the mix, recreating the track as a bouncy instructional dance floor work out. Nick Catchdubs brings the least to the party, simply moving the crunchy bassline to the forefront and letting it run its course.

Next up is a remix of a new Young Punx track, Juice & Gin, by Riva Starr. It’s completely unfair how the track adds up to be so much more than the sum of its parts. Relying only on a slightly syncopated set of drum splices over a simple beat, a chirpy lead and some ragga vocals the remix manages to be memorable, catchy and danceable. I can’t wait to hear who else has their way with the track and apparently the Young Punx have an album out, which I’m sure is a blast.

Finally is someone we’ve really been neglecting and whom I’m sure you’ve heard of. Don Diablo has been seriously blowing up these past few months and I haven’t really been paying attention. Songs like Black Heat just didn’t jive with me all too well, but now I have found a track of his that I can work with. Like A Pro takes what sounds like a funky horn break and turns it into dance floor shrapnel, coupled with some pitched down vocals, and a synth jam layered on top.
