The Tape

New Label: Nueva Forma

Let’s be honest here, I’m the only one who likes anything glitchy at The Tape. When the other members hear me say “Oh hey guys, I just downloaded a CD with a motif of surgical instruments (Matmos‘ A Chance To Cut Is A Chance To Cure) or “This is so tight how he buries the melody under layers of noise and ambience (Fennesz)” they generally laugh at me for liking stupid music and slap me. Okay so that wasn’t completely accurate and what I’m about to discuss isn’t that over the top glitchy, however, proceed with caution.

Nueva Forma is a braaaaaand new record label with one of the spiffiest layouts I’ve ever seen. With an artist lineup of Masmod, White Car, and Gejius (who we posted about here) the quality is already top notch. A compilation has been released in celebration of the new label, as well as an introduction to the artists, and it’s all in glorious DRM free 320 kpbs. All of this is more eloquently put in their Modus Operandi

Relatively young, but voracious about quality sound (or sound quality!) and aesthetics; Nueva Forma™ is a collective of sound-makers, designers, and ever-evolving digerati. As an eclectic music label, our agenda is simple; to offer you a wide variety of acousmatic pop, IDM, dub, click house, ambient, hip-hop and more. We strive to produce and release records of the highest bar, measure, and note for your listening pleasure; while often producing limited edition packaging, only to add delight to the senses that our music has not yet seized.

We understand that without our talented artists, we have no vessel to build from. Our belief, like most quality-seekers, is that compromise holds no advantage. To us, there is no such thing as haste in sound; that “thing” that is whipped together in a day or week’s effort, speedily traversed to the record shops and chain stores only for monetary gain—or, as determined by the market, a lack thereof.

While we realize and certainly embrace the portability and convenience of digital media, (mp3s specifically), we will not abandon the original carriage that is tangible media. Nueva Forma™ recognizes the importance in the curious beauty of physical packaging, memorable album art, and unique artist branding, and carries that principle into each and every project we craft. We hope you find our attention to detail in both the music and packaging we release worthy to be a part of your collection of discerning sights and sounds.

If all of this sounds good to you then check them out, here are some mp3s to sample

Gejius - Makkuro Kurosuke

Masmod - Like Morning In Your Eyes

Nice. We need more good labels pushing the boundaries of what people release.
