We got a very happy New Year’s email from his Orchestra. The band, now 7 members strong, have been putting the finishing touches on their debut album, due out mid-January. Building buzz of their very successful residency at Silverlake late in 2008, they’ll be opening for West Indian Girl at the Roxy January 24th. Expect big things from these kids in ’09. Their music is very enjoyable indiepop. Think a jazzier, poppier Grizzly Bear/Department of Eagles. Their influences on MySpace cite Van Dyke Parks, Leonard Cohen and others. They also fit the bill. Their influences also include Ken Kwapis, the father of our beloved Henry Kwapis (hKWAP). Very small world indeed. Grab the mp3 they’ve so lovingly supplied us below.
