The first GMM of 2009, happy new year everybody!
First off, we have a relatively obscure song. Life The Great is a relatively unknown rapper discovered by one of The Tape members (Caz4Mack). He created the song “Stupid Fresh”, which really doesn’t talk about anything at all. I generally try to listen to music that has meaning, and something important to say, but Life The Great does a fantastic job of straying me from my previous restrictions towards music listening. The beat on this track is so huge and epic, I can’t help but love it.
Second, we have a relatively new remix from Jay-Z and Kanye West. They took Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” and made their own “Double Ladies” out of it. I’m not sure if the title is suggesting that Jay-Z and Kanye West refer to themselves as ladies, but that’s not really important. This remix features a heavy synth and a clip of Kanye saying “Throw your diamonds in the sky if you feel the vibe”, which is from his hit single “Diamonds From Sierra Leone.”

Last but not least, we have a Ludacris single that really gives us some holiday spirit and cheer. Luda did an absolutely fantastic job flipping a Christmas classic into his own song. Over a year old, and I still love this song.
