The Tape

Gejius

Hailing from surprisingly awesome city Portland, Oregon Gejius delivers atmospheric, jazzy, vibrant soundscapes in the vein of Four Tet with a little bit of Daedelus. His debut album Black Eyes combines shining elements of sampling, post rock, pop, breaks, jazz into something fun and listenable while still seeming serious and intricate. Makkuro Kurosuke sounds like if Girlsareshort had been classically trained and played in lounges where after dark all of the stuffy laid back people started shirtless dance parties in artistic slow motion. Nihongo 2.0 sounds like a slightly twisted theme to a TV show or the music accompanying a potentially depressing or potentially life changing montage. If you’re down for some delicious organic and beautiful soundtrack like grooves and you like Daedelus or Four Tet or Girlsareshort or trust me/us check out Gejius

the sample for “makkuro kurosuke” was taken from the excellent anime film MY NEIGHBOUR TOTORO, in case you didn’t know. its a chant that the kids used to tell the ghosts and spirits to stop hiding and to reveal themselves.
