The Will Smith Appreciation Post

Written by pistachionut on Wednesday, 17 of September , 2008 at 5:20 pm

I’d like to take a moment to step back and acknowledge an idol of our generation. His style, music and acting have permeated the pop culture membrane time and time again. This post is an homage and tribute to the one, the only, Will Smith.

Willard Christopher Smith Jr, born and raised in West Philadelphia (no joke). While in his teen years, he teamed up with Jeff Townes (DJ Jazzy Jeff) and started rapping under the guise of the “Fresh Prince.” After a wee bit of tax evasion, Will was fined by the IRS and went nearly bankrupt. NBC laid out a helping had and starred Smith in a new sitcom, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, about a character based on real life Will being transplanted to Beverly Hills. The show was a large succes, and has garnered much cult fame today. His film fame started with the buddy cop film Bad Boys with Martin Lawrence in 1995. He gained status througout the late 90s, building a very succesful music career. Continue reading for some lyrics and tunes.

First class yo this is bad, drinkin orange juice out of a champagne
glass…
Is this what the people of Bel-Air are livin like?
Hmmm this might be alright!
I whistled for a cab and when it came near
the license plate said FRESH and it had dice in the mirror.
If anything I could say this cab was rare but I thought
“Nah forget it… Yo homes to Bel-Air!”

Will Smith - The Fresh Prince of Bel Air (Theme)

“You trying to flex on me
Don’t be silly
Getting jiggy wit it”

Will Smith - Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It

“The good guys dress in black remember that
Just in case we ever face to face and make contact
The title held by me — M.I.B.
Means what you think you saw, you did not see
So don’t blink be what was there
is now gone, black suit with the black Ray Ban’s on
Walk in shadow, move in silence
Guard against extra-terrestrial violence
But yo we ain’t on no government list
We straight don’t exist, no names and no figerprints
Saw somethin strange, watch your back
Cause you never quite know where the M.I.B.’s is at”

Will Smith - Men In Black

“Yo I heard the rainstorms ain’t nothin to mess with
But I can’t feel a drip on the strip, it’s a trip
Ladies half-dressed, fully equipped
And they be screamin out, ‘Will we loved your last hit!’”

Will Smith - Miami

“Just the two of us, we can make it if we try
Just the two of us, (Just the two of us)
Just the two of us, building castles in the sky
Just the two of us, you and I”

Will Smith - Just the Two of Us (You and I)
