Aesop Rock- The Troubadour, September 13th

Last night myself and #1 homie attended Aesop Rock’s first night at the Troubadour.
P.S. I forgot my camera, so I apologize for the Iphone pictures.
The show started off with an absolute bang as Busdriver absolutely killed it. Besides him having the coolest live set-up ever, he also had the fastest flow I’ve ever heard from anyone. He put so much into his live show, it was nice to see a hip-hop artist who can still have a creative live show. It consisted of Anti MC doing the beats and occasionally playing some guitar, while Busdriver did everything else. Busdriver had two mics; one normal one, and another one that was a pitch modulator with a foot pedal controlling it. It was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. At some points I turned to #1 homie and just said “Holy shit he’s amazing.”
Busdriver- Kill Your Employer (Recreational Paranoia Is The Sport Of Now)
Busdriver- Dream Catcher’s Mitt
Next, a duo made up of Yak Ballz and Kosher Dillz hit the stage and then left. They served their purpose as a time waster, and that was it.
After about 15 minutes of waiting, Aesop hit the stage with his hefty sidekick Rob Sonic and his insane DJ, DJ Big Wiz. From the moment Aesop stepped on the stage he absolutely killed it. He played everything I wanted to hear, along with an insane acapella freestyle (?) filled with insane metaphors and awesome punch lines. The only bad part of the show was the drunk girl behind us who just kept on screaming “Daylightttttttt. Daylightttttttt.” Aesop eventually responded to her, and played his most famous song. Although he played it to perfection, I sort of wished that he hadn’t played it altogether just to show her that he has more than one awesome song. But once she got that wish, she proceeded to scream “Aesopppppp, and No EL-PPPPPP (referring to his friend, fellow rapper EL-P).” Aside from this woman, it was one of the better shows I have ever attended. The highlight was easily “None Shall Pass” which he played before his one and only encore. By the end he just looped the beat and had the audience scream “And I will remember your name and face on the day you were judged by the funhouse cast, and I will rejoice in your fall of grace with a cane to the sky like none shall pass”, which was pretty awesome. Although he didn’t communicate with the audience that often, he did tell a funny story about the night before. He said how when it went silent at one point, some kid just screamed out “I want smoked gouda” which he found pretty funny. Rob Sonic also gave us a little too much information when he told us why In-N-Out was called said name. He explained that it goes straight in and straight out. This doesn’t sound that bad, but when you see what he looks like, you’ll understand.
If you’ve never seen Busdriver or Aesop before I highly recommend it, for it was one of the better shows I’ve ever attended.
