Computer Love

Anybody who doesn’t think Kraftwerk is responsible for everything about modern electronic music is a fool. Mr. T would pity them. Hell, I would pity them. Ralf, Karl, Wolfgang and Florian are the basis for anything like Daft Punk, Justice or the various associated contemporaries. Their song “Computer Love” may not be recognizable by name, but it would be identifiable by ear almost instantly. The riff was sampled by Coldplay on their 2004 single “Talk.” Chris Martin sent a letter to Ralf in his high school German pleading for use of the riff. Surprisingly, they were granted permission and “Talk” went on to become a huge success.

Glass Candy recently did a cover of “Computer Love” for their debut album, B/E/A/T/B/O/X/. It gives the song a more soulful spin. It takes it down a few notches but maintains that Kraftwerk ominous vibe.
