Guilty Music Monday #22

Eminem. What a funny word, Eminem. What could it mean? Could it be a play on words of his name Marshall Mathers. You know, two m’s but to be cool spell it oddly. Or maybe he really likes the chocolates with the colorful hard shell. But in all honesty, Eminem is a great rapper. He paints a vivid picture in every one of his song, but him being white makes people look down upon him as a rapper. I recently read a book entitled Why White Kids Love Hip-Hop and one of the main reasons for hip-hop becoming more diverse, is solely because of him. So there are two sides to this. There is the side that most black rappers are taking, saying that hip-hop is dominated by blacks its for blacks; and then there are other mostly non-black rappers who believe hip-hop isn’t just black, thanks mostly to Eminem (and the Beastie Boys before him). Anyways, these anti-diversity rappers are fearing that hip-hop will be taken away from them just like Rock N Roll was before that. Anyways, there is my rant… Now enjoy some Eminem.

Eminem- When I’m Gone
