This week we are going for a guilty hip-hop type theme.
First we have Snoop Dogg’s newest single “Sexual Eruption.” Yes, it is called Sexual Eruption. Anyways his new album comes out tomorrow, get psyched. I kind of giggle whenever I hear it.
Snoop Dogg- Sexual Eruption
Second we have an R. Kelly mash-up. It’s from The Hood Internet and is called “I’m A Flirt (R. Kelly vs. Broken Social Scene).” It’s an amazing mash-up and R. Kelly makes everything amazing. Quotable line: “She be calling you Kelly, when your name is Tommy.”
The Hood Internet- I’m A Flirt (Shoreline) (R. Kelly feat. T-Pain, T.I. vs Broken Social Scene)
Next we have yet another song featuring R. Kelly. But this one is by Rick “Boss” Ross. Was it meant to rhyme? No one will ever know. But the version I am giving you is so special, it is a remix. Featuring another pop king, Chris Brown. Famous for his lyrically ingenious “Kiss Kiss”, I honestly don’t know what two singers from the same genre, who in my mind sound the same, benefit a song. But whatever, Rick Ross is boss.
Rick Ross (feat. R. Kelly, Chris Brown)- Speedin’ (Remix)
Next we have “Fuck Tha Police (ft. Bone Thugs-N-Harmony)”, by N.W.A. There is a very simple explanation of why this song is guilty. I’m white.
N.W.A. (ft. Bone Thugs-N-Harmony)- Fuck Tha Police (mediafire)
Next we have the “Can’t Tell Me Nothing Remix” by Mr. Kanye West. I love this song, but the cast of thugs rhyming guest verses on this song makes it guilty. The other people on this song are Lil’ Wayne, Busta Rhymes, and Young Jeezy. Lil’ Wayne is clever, and Busta Rhymes sampled Daft Punk first, but Young Jeezy sucks (besides the fact that he’s on Lupe’s new “Superstar” remix).
Kanye West (feat. Lil’ Wayne, Busta Rhymes, and Young Jeezy)- Can’t Tell Me Nothin’ (Remix)
Last and definitely most epic, we have “One Blood” by The Game. BUT this isn’t any old Game song. This is the remix featuring Hip-Hop. Confused? Just listen.

I just found the song “Death Of An 80s Limo (feat. MC Beans)” while scrolling through RCRD LBL. I really haven’t heard of General Elektriks before, but after hearing the track I am definitely going to look into them more. The song really paints a vivid image of a story about a high school kid. The flow of this rapper is absolutely amazing. He stumbles over a few words, but the way he says his words is really distinct.

Cadence Weapon’s new album is amazing. Cadence Weapon is amazing. Afterparty babies are amazing. The newest release from Cadence “Fucking” Weapon is so ridiculously different from his debut album “Breaking Kayfabe”, the only recognizable part is his voice. It seems as though Cadence Weapon has really broken through with a new idea for this record. There is a distinguishable difference in his last album which had a very minimalistic yet interesting vibe to it. This album has a more electronic/house music vibe to it, it even has a track on it called “House Music.” I’ll just briefly talk about my three favorite tracks.
Coming in at number 3 is track number 3 “True Story.” This track starts out with a little bit of spoken word, and then bursts into Cadence rapping about rumors. His loud, dramatic, annunciated voice really makes this track exciting.
Cadence Weapon- True Story
Number 2 is the opening track of this album entitled, “Do I Miss My Friends?” This song has a ridiculous beat. It starts out with a loop of him singing “Mmm Bup.” Next comes in a little loop of him singing about him missing his friends. He proceeds to rap over his own acapella beat.He continues to sing the chorus sort of out of tune, but it’s alright because it’s damn catchy.

My favorite track on Cadence Weapon’s new album “Afterparty Babies” is called “Getting Dumb.” I guess I love this track so much for two reasons. The first being that the beat is sick. It starts out with this really heavy drum pattern, with a dirty sounding synth layered on top of it. But the main reason I guess I love this track, is because it reminds me of a better version of Lupe Fiasco’s “Dumb It Down.” I feel the lyrics in Lupe’s track are far superior, but Cadence Weapon just brings this vibe to the track that a ringtone beat doesn’t bring to a song. Even though Lupe used such a shitty beat to protest average, radio rap music, the beat still sucks. Lupe is still my favorite hip-hop artist, but I think Cadence Weapon does a better job of presenting his protest then Mr. Fiasco does.

An australian musician who mixes a folky rock style with electronic influences. He sounds a lot like Sufjan Stevens. His CD “The Submarine” is a great rainy day album, that has a real feel good vibe. He loops electronic beats and interesting instruments over his popy vocals. I was first unsure about his CD, “The Submarine” but the more i listened the more interesting it got. A few negative points I don’t find anything about the music to particularly stand out. I just although I have a good time listening to it, and don’t get me wrong I think its a good album, but their is something about it that feels a little bit, “disposable.” So just check him out and make your own mind up.
7/10

No! This post doesn’t have anything to do with racial equality, cats, or Phil Collins. It’s the genesis of my new weekly, Discovery Duecedays!?!
This week, appropriate to the current political tornado, it’s Columbus, Ohio natives Our Cat Philip. (See Above)
Their website lets you know, “Our Cat Philip is a really good band…. We promise” and they look like they aren’t chronic liars, like much of the music industry today.
Led by two pianists, OCP (Ordinary Clown Posse anyone?) roll with instruments including bass cello, banjo, and other stuff besides guitar giving them an interesting and original sound. Their EP I Am Made of Steel is available on their website, for free, just how we like our music and waffle fries.
Standout track “Call The Moon” leads on with a Broken Social Scene vibe and a wonderful conclusion. Check it out all the way to the end. The real gem here is “Time is Just A Healer for the Sick” Take my word for it. I can’t wait to see what these boys do next, right after they finish college.

Not to toot my own horn, but I would say that this is probably the best GMM yet. I have three very guilty tracks for you all, so let us get right into it.
First, we have “Where Is My Mind” by The Pixies. This song is a guilty pleasure for me because I only really like it for its relevance in M.I.A.’s $20. Next time you listen to that song, notice the lyrics in the chorus.
The Pixies- Where Is My Mind
Next we have “Wamp Wamp (What It Do) by the ever so amazing Clipse. This song is a guilty pleasure of mine for a very complex reason. Whenever this is blasting in my earphones at school, I can’t help but scream out “Wamp wamp, What it do what it do.” I don’t know why this happens it just does. Anyways, I get really strange looks when I yell these relatively unknown words. So, the only place I can safely listen to this beautiful song is in the confines of my own room.
Clipse- Wamp Wamp (What It Do)
Last and for sure my favorite we have “Push It!” by Salt ‘N’ Pepa. Salt ‘N’ Pepa is quite possibly the definition of a guilty pleasure. I have listened to this song many times, having memorized most of the lyrics. I am more proud of this face than embarrassed.

A New York based folk-rock band that have been playing together for a little over a year. Cheif was started by Even Kooga, Michael Moonves, and Danny & Michael Fugikawa. They take a lot of their influences from people such as CSNY, And Neil Young. TheyhHave some really interesting and rocking instrumentations that definitely give off a very relaxed vibe. I feel they are bringing back a really cool aesthetic that had been lost for a few years in the music seen; something bands like Wilco were able to achieve. I love their melodies and overall their music just makes you feel super good. They told me their songs will be up on iTunes soon so give them a listen, then go out and buy the CD.
Chief-Far Away
This is definitely one of my favorites. I hear a little Dylan in this tune.
Chief-Shaker
Shaker rocks a little harder then some of their other songs.
Check out their myspace to hear the rest of their songs.

Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin.
A name.
A band.
A legend.
SSLYBY (sly boy, silly bee, Sicily bye) have just released their sophmore effort,

The art is interesting to say the least. I’ve had multiple people tell me it looks like anything from feces to leaves. moving on…
SSLYBY has been one of my favorite bands for a long time, as evidenced by my last.fm page on which one can see that SSLYBY is my 5th played artist, a mere 20 or so tracks away from the 4th, Radiohead. So how is it that I listen to a small indie pop band from Springfield, Missouri as much as the arguably greatest band of our time? The answer is not a conscious thing for me. SSLYBY make me feel good. They are a good band. They are not world famous nor revolutionary in their style nor instrumental masters. But the boys from Missouri trying their best to sound like what life is really like make them more genuine and real. In the coming decades one can only hope that with a generation of children reared on auto-tuned manufactured hits by artificial fronts for teams of hit-factories like Hannah Montana and The Jonas Brothers, real bands like SSLYBY can continue to exist and create music, that while not completely shocking, can make people feel tangible emotion. A song by [Sony music-thinktanks] may make it to the top on the ringtone downloads charts, but Broom and Pershing sound like a summer day. Not a notification that someone is trying to contact you, but the sound the ocean makes when it hits the shore. The sound that is made when all of your friends pile in the car to go to Coachella.
And now, the review.
Pershing is certainly a step in a different direction for SSLBY. Broom had its share of poppy runners, but the real (i.e. people who didn’t just get “Oregon Girl” from the OC soundtrack) fans gathered around songs like “House Fire” and “Anna Lee.” Pershing seems to be dominated by songs like “Oregon Girl” again, and in that sense, it works quite well. Lead single and opening track “Glue Girls,” along with “Boring Fountain,” “Modern Mystery,” second single and strongest track “Think I Wanna Die,” and “Oceanographer” all seem to go after the “I’ve been around the world but I never seen another Oregon girl” tack, although “Oceanographer,” the longest song on the album at 4:45, is bogged down by itself. “Glue Girls” and “Think I Wanna Die” particularly pull it off. “Boring Fountain” “Dead Right” and “The Beach Song.” are all great tracks. “Some Constellation” is a nice quieter song, and “You Could Write A Book” is also a staple SSLYBY song, harmonies and tight hooks all the way through. The album really shines on “Think I Wanna Die” and especially quasi-closing track “HEERS.” HEERS is the one that particularly matches the style and emotion of “House Fire”.
So is Pershing good? Yes. Is it great? Yes. Is it amazing? Most of the time, yes.
