My 14 Favorite Things Of March

March had a wide variety for me. From Flosstradamus samplers, to Santogold riding a horse, and even Tracy Morgan doing a drunk interview on WGN. I’ve counted down my 14 favorite things of
March. All mp3’s are from mediafire. Please do remember, many of these songs are very old, but I discovered or rediscovered them during this month.

14: UNKLE- Hold My Hand
This song was featured in the movie 21. The movie was decent, but the soundtrack was fantastic. Anyways, I have always been an UNKLE fan, and this song is awesome.

13: Aesop Rock & Del Tha Funkee Homosapien- Preservation
Del+Aesop+Awesome Horns=Happy Willie.

12: The Raconteurs- Consolers Of The Lonely
I happen to be very fond of the new Raconteurs disc. I find it different from the new album, but similar enough to know it’s Jack White and co. This is my favorite song from the new album.

11: Santogold- L.E.S. Artists Video
Yes, it’s true… Santogold is riding on a horse. Why you ask? Because she’s awesome. She may resemble M.I.A. a lot, but I just love something about her, and this video.

10: The Game- Big Dreams
The Game may not have a lot of importance in his lyrics, but there is something about his angry flow and addicting beats that makes me love this new song. The whiney moans in the background (not sexual, I just did a terrible job describing it) really add another layer to the song.

9: Fatboy Slim- Right Here, Right Now

Oh how we love you Fatboy! I heard this song while flipping through the Sirius radio channels, and it immediately made me remember every sporting event I went to in my early years.

8: Flosstradamus- Overnight Star (Twista Vs. Sigur Ros)
This is the first of Flosstradamus’ two appearances on this entry. There is something so hilarious about mashing together Twista and Sigur Ros, but the geniuses from the windy city (No not Kanye, Lupe, A-Trak, Kid Sis, The Cool Kids, or Common) by the names of J2K and Autobot (Flossy D) (Flosstradamus) really do a great job with this mash-up.

7: The Rolling Stones- You Can’t Always Get What You Want (Soulwax Remix)
Yet another song from the 21 soundtrack, this song is flat out amazing. The original I mean. Soulwax takes it to a new level. Although I do love the choir at the beginning of the song, Soulwax magnificently places various choral voices throughout the remix.

6: Outkast- B.O.B.
The dynamic duo of Andre Benjamin and Antwan Patton, created possibly my favorite hip hop album ever in Aquemini. But that is besides the point since B.O.B. is on Stankonia (another great album). I had forgotten about this song until I ordered A-Trak’s “Sunglasses Is A Must EP” on vinyl. I was very happy to see that B.O.B. had been mashed up with Bloc Party’s “She’s Hearing Voices.” My vinyl hasn’t arrived, but this is bound to be amazing. Here is the original, yet brilliant B.O.B.

5: Lupe Fiasco and Chris Brown (CB) freestyling after a show.

Chris Brown is a good pop artist, but please save the rapping for Lupe. I can’t understand most of it, but I automatically assume that Chris is saying a bunch of bullshit, and Lupe is saying something revolutionary. No offense to Chris, but I see him more as a singer about girls, then an artist who talks about various concepts (i.e. Lupe Fiasco).

4: Lupe Fiasco Feat. Young Jeezy and T.I.- Superstar (remix)
As if this song couldn’t get any better, the blabber of Young Jeezy and his first Honda Accord, and T.I. rapping about the solfedge, somehow make this song even better. I kind of dislike Lupe’s choice to appeal to a more commercial audience, I thought he was against all of that. (See Dumb It Down for first hand reference). Anyways, Lupe adds a good verse as well.
So you can ask them exactly who I are, 9 weeks at number 1 I’m a superstar.

3: Tracy Morgan… Drunk on national TV.

I love Tracy Morgan more than life itself. During my skiing vacation to Utah, I discovered two things. #1: I hate skiing, it sucks. #2: I love Tracy Morgan. I watched the entire first season of 30 rock and fell in love with both Tracy Jordan (his character) and Tracy Morgan. This is him drunk on WGN.

2: Flosstradamus sampling machine
flossyfxv15.zip
This is Flosstradamus’ second appearance on this glorious list. Flossy D had a link a while ago on Myspace of a sampler. The link had been removed, so after a little bit of searching I found this fun little sampler. It includes gunshots, sirens, fan cheers, and explosions of all kinds. I tried to re-create M.I.A.’s “Paper Planes”, but the gunshots tend to drag.

1: Mickey Factz- K-1 Attack
It’s Mickey!!! Yes the man who graced us with his presence with an interview, has created quite possibly the greatest track of 2008. I found this song around a week ago, but saved it for this list specifically. I’m not going to tell you why I love this song, but lets just say he raps over a song that has needed to be rapped over since its release.
